Class Update - October 21st

Hola familias:

I hope you had a great week. Here is what we did in class.

This Week in Review:

  • Math: We finished the unit about estimation of sums and differences. We are now refreshing or knowledge about the multiplication tables.
  • Social Studies: Students are writing postcards from across Canada to learn about the significant role that bodies of water and climate play in the life of people living in these regions.
  • Spanish: We are reviewing present tense with "Día de los Muertos" activities.
  • ELAL: Students are very much enjoying the novel Amal Unbound. With that, they are learning about elements of literature (e.g. mood, theme, etc.), new vocabulary, and summary writing. We will start looking at how to write a personal narrative next week.
  • Science: We learned about elements of the weather: temperature, wind, and humidity. We also built our own instruments to measure wind direction and wind speed. We learned how to read a thermometer in degrees Celsius and a pyschrometer for relative humidity.
  • Physical Education: We continue our unit about basketball.
  • Art: Students used soft pastels to paint a spooky road with one point perspective.

School photos retakes were originally scheduled to happen on October 17 & 18 have been rescheduled to November 2 & 3.  If you would like your child to have photo retakes, please email your child's teacher to let them know. Class Photos will also happen on the same days.

Raz-Kids

Students now have access to use Raz-Kids at school and home. This is a great tool that allows students to have access to English and Spanish books at their reading level. We also encourage students to take the reading comprehension quiz that follows the reading. As teachers we can get useful information that sparks a conversation around students' reading comprehension based on what students are reading.

Halloween

With Halloween coming up, students are invited to wear costumes to school on Monday, October 31.  The costumes must be worn the whole day and must be appropriate for school environment meaning no violent or inappropriate content or messaging. Accessories such as swords, guns, knives, weapons etc. should not be brought to school.  As costumes should not impede learning, we ask that no mask even if it’s a half face mask be worn to school.  Those wanting to wear COVID masks are welcome to. Due to dietary restrictions and preferences, no food should be brought to school for sharing purposes.  While well intended, other non-food treats should also be not brought to school (goodie/loot bags).

IMPORTANT DATES:

October 28 - PD Day, No School

October 31 - Halloween Parade

November 11 - Remembrance Day
