Class Update - February 10th

¡Hola familias!

We have been very busy finishing up some fabulous tasks! Ask your child what happened with their crystals, what are some examples of a chemical changes, what their most recent artwork is about or how to find equivalent fractions.

πŸ“£ DON'T FORGET - SPRING CONCERT SURVEY

With having three Grade 5 classes, some logistical issues for the concert are created.  We understand that due to prior commitments, some students may not be able to participate.  In order to have a better idea of how to organize the instruments and the singing for the concert, we ask that you confirm your child's participation.  Please indicate on which date(s) your child can participate.  Grade 5 students are welcome to participate both evenings as this is an excellent way for them to experience performing these pieces in preparation for Que Pasa. Please respond to this survey by Tuesday, February 22, 2023, so that we have enough time to prepare.

THIS WEEK IN REVIEW / LO QUE APRENDIMOS ESTA SEMANA

  • πŸ”’ Math: We learned about equivalent fractions. We will now turn into comparing fractions.
  • πŸ’ƒ Spanish: We completed our adverb table and students are writing a summary of the most recent book they read. To finalize our unit, they will write a short tale using adverbs. In reading, we are learning to decode diphthongs.
  • πŸ“š English: We are reading a variety of chapter books in the literacy circles, mainly fictional and non-fictional texts link to our Social Studies unit about Indigenous Ways of Life. Students completed their poetry booklet, which will be displayed during student-led conferences. We will now start our unit about expository writing and will learn two types: compare and contrast, and definition.
  • πŸ§ͺ Science: We are finalizing the unit about chemistry. Today, we made carbon dioxide and turned off a tea candle. Students were able to identify the chemical reaction. We will continue with surface tension, and acids and bases. A unit test is scheduled for the week of February 27-March 3.
  • 🍁 Social Studies: We are critically examining the ways of life of Indigenous Peoples in Canada. This unit will finalize with a video in which students will use oral storytelling to demonstrate their learning.
  • 🧢 Art: Students are creating their artifacts using geometrical shapes inspired by the Indigenous art from the Coast Salish and the WayΓΊu people. They have blown my mind with their creativity! Some students have used Minecraft while others are handcrafting.
